7. It is essential that leaders are able to evaluate the outcomes of programs and projects. This is an area that many leaders fall short upon. Discuss how project goals are integrated with program evaluation. Include thoughts on how you will articulate and develop organizational programs and goals. How do objectives align with the achievement of goals?

Every project is initiated with an expectation of certain outcomes. If the outcome is not as expected, it is vital to reconsider our process of execution or the entire motive of the project.

Project evaluation forms the basis for project development. Let us consider a simple example, A company's marketing department has decided to advertise their books and stationary by setting up stalls in schools and giving free goodies to the students who are buying stuff above a certain amount. The expected result ( after considerable research ) is x amount of sales and increase in customer base by y%. After this project was carried out, it was noticed that the sales target was achieved but the customer base has not increased significantly. Now as a project manager, it is important to dive deep and understand how the mechanism worked. Students, when they were with friends in school, bought more stuff. But when they had to come to stores ( mostly with their parents ), not many turned up. Hence, the logistics of a child transportation and also the pocket money, parent's approval etc. was to be taken into consideration and find alternatives to surpass the hindrances.

Hence, accurate evaluation of project goals will lead to stronger goal modifications/ additions which will lead to the better achievement of results.

Every program is to be performed keeping the goal in mind. It must be ensured that all the major tasks performed in the program are significantly contributing towards the goal. However, there will be deviations. Deviations are acceptable as long as they add value to the organization or the personnel. But it is critical that the project should never be carried away by deviations and should only be a sub-task of the main tasks.
Keeping that in view, organization programs will be developed by learning from other programs. Any major hindrances from the market/ resources that is not allowing the existing programs to suffice the needs of the organization, a new program must be planned to tackle such hindrances and provide a smooth functioning.

A program can also be started for new projects and new visions of the company. All of this is also based on extensive market research and study of the company's performance.

A company might have various targets, projects etc. but each of them is aimed at realising the company's primary objectives. Every goal that is to be achieved is based on a project that is started to help the objective be achieved and hence we may look at all the goals as bits and pieces of the major objectives. There will be many deviations which circumvent the goals, but they are necessary to achieve the inherent goals and objectives effectively.

8.Technology and informatics will continue to shape and redefine healthcare in the coming years. Discuss how leaders must position themselves in the utilization and implementation of technology and informatics within healthcare. Provide an example of project management goals when implementing a new piece of technology. What considerations must be taken into account through the selection and implementation of new healthcare-related software?

For any organization to sruvive and thrive, it is impertaive to align itself with the dynamic enviorment which consists of numerous technological advances. Since healthcare is very sensitive and the customers, who are generally the patients, would not take a chance with outdated technology. And since there is competition in everyfield including healthcare, they look for a more promising service.

Initially the competition in health care involved the affordability, convenience, quality etc. But now, technology and innovation are key factors. Better and efficient use of tenchonology and informatics will lessen the use of traditional equipment, maintaince of such equipment and also reduce in human resourcs. This reduce in costs can be used to reduce the rpice of the service which in turn will attract the customers since there is new technology, accuracy data, and afforable prices available.

One simple example of new health care project could be buying new scanning machines that just arrived in the market and provide more details of the nerves etc. It is important to consult the physicians before arriving at a decision, get is tested, experiment the results, evaluate the differen between the old and new machine, compare the cost differece and the ROI, estimate approximate customer satisfaction by the value the new machine adds and arrive at a decision.

Leaders can develop progams and other services by assessing the patient's satisfaction. Depending on this, other quality checks can also be made.
However, leaders must also make sure that too much is not invested in technology and the Human resources are cornered. Irrespective of the technology and other updates, human resources are the prime reason for any healthcare organization to flourish. Hence, human resources must always be given the Supreme importance in terms of health care and how convenient are they to use the new technology. It is important to consider their recomendations.

9. Our human resources are a key strategical component for each organization. Our goal is to retain good employees. Discuss human resource issues that might arise within an organization. Provide an example of how leaders will navigate through these issues to retain employees and prevent turnover.

“Human resources are like natural resources; they're often buried deep. You have to go looking for them, they're not just lying around on the surface. You have to create the circumstances where they show themselves.”
Ken Robinson

Few Human resource issues that might arise are :
1. Negativity: Not all people are alike. There may be few employees who hate their job and hate their boss! Irrespective of their personal choices and reasons, they tend to spread the negativity knowingly and unknowingly. They don't always agree with Ideas, new challenges, take initiative and gossip around. This influences the co-workers by putting additional burdens and causing sceptical on their boss' behaviour.
In such cases, it is first important to listen to the negative worker. Take their feedback and try providing some change which the worker may like. This is to let the worker know that they are important. Example: An employee opposes every idea, every new piece of work in team meetings, speak to the worker, find out if the worker is interested in a different work, give responsibility so that the worker can show some interest.

2. Change management: People are not ready to accept change. most of the employees are comfortable in the present conditions. Any major or minor changes ( change in the office building, change in the desks of the people, change of the Manager, change in the project, change in the way performance is evaluated) will be first resisted. One way to tackle this is leaders must maintain transparency in the ongoing process of change. If the employees can predict such changes, they are better prepared. Example: The employees are to be shifted to a different building where there are no separate cubicles but just open desks. (Assuming the current office has individual cubicles) Let the employees have a hint about this months before and also change the places of the employees so that they don't get too comfortable with their desks and get used to moving.

3. Compensation: Although not the only factor, yet the most important driving factor of an employee's satisfaction. During hikes and bonuses and year-end reviews, there may be several disputes regarding an employee.s revised compensation and other monetary benefits and not all agree with the justification. In such cases, leaders have to work hard to retain their employees but providing better working conditions ( less of slagging ), challenging opportunities so that the individual will take up those to prove themselves. Example: An employee worked very had but got only a hike of 20%. The employee was expecting a minimum of 35%. The leaders should ensure that they trust in the employee's contribution and the employee is aware of it. They need to give their justification and also a path as to how can he/she get a better hike next year. It is also important to give challenging projects to boost up the employee morale and have a quarterly check on how it is going to the employee.

4.

4. Worklife Balance: There may be many instances, the employee might face a strong need to have more time for personal life. This may extremely disappoint the employee and starts to show less interest in work which leads to dissatisfaction and eventually looking for a different job. The leads in the organization should ensure that the work-life balance is not disturbed. There are certain peak times where the employees need to pitch in extra time and efforts to keep up with the goals, however, if such efforts can be compensated with an extended weekend or additional bonus etc., the employees get a feeling that their efforts are getting paid off well. Example: Employees in a retail company work overtime to manage the extensive sales orders received during the Christmas holiday season. The company decides to give holidays to the employees from 23rd Dec until 1st of Jan without any of their leaves being utilized. All orders will be managed and shipped beforehand. Any orders received after 23rd Jan will have a processing lag and urgent orders will be handled by a handful of the workforce during the holidays who will be paid double the daily rates.

10.The regulatory environment is ever changing in healthcare. The collection of data to support quality improvement efforts is a core function of healthcare leaders. Discuss regulatory and quality impacts that leaders must be monitoring in an organization. Provide an example of data that would be utilized to drive decision making for a leader within a healthcare organization.

Leadership is critical in the healthcare industry. Who are the leaders? They are the governing body, executive committee and the managers. If they do not work as a group, the company goals are unlikely to be met and in this competitive world, they lose. The leadership should be continuously engaged in monitoring management responsibilities, resources, manufacturing operations and evaluation activities in order to provide quality services.

Leadership should demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining their quality.

Leadership should encourage internal communication on quality issues at all levels in the organization. Communication should be ongoing among R&D, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, etc.

Implementing a robust quality system can help ensure compliance with Government regulations related to drug safety, identity, quality etc.

Leadership should articulate their vision of and commitment to quality to all levels of the organization

System review is a key component in any organisation to ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness. Leadership should focus on the system review to improve the quality.

Data-driven decisions are a key factor for success in any industry. In healthcare, benefits of data include early detection of disease which in turn leads to easy and cost-effective treatment. Data also helps in detecting fraud in the healthcare. Certain developments or outcomes may be predicted and/or estimated based on vast amounts of historical data, such as length of stay, patients who will choose elective surgery, patients who likely will not benefit from surgery, complications, patients at risk for medical complications etc. Data is also very helpful in the R&D field helping in figuring out more efficient ways of treating any illness.

The below example shows how data can be utilized to drive decision making for a leader:

Precision medicine: Physicians and medical researchers research on this and centralize the data to enhance the personalized care of the patients. Ex USA President Barack Obama had the vision to put up a national patient databank to ease personalized treatment & encourage genome research. Even without such a databank, healthcare organizations may use such concepts to facilitate personalized care by use of big data analytics to correlate patient's data stored in EMRs to national data trnds, studies and predictions.
