The role of marketing function is to research and develop the plan of how to start up with the Marketing of organization’s product. They will need to plan keeping in consideration of customers, competition and many other external opportunities. Also marketing function needs to focus on sales & distribution, demand forecasting and budget as well. For any business to succeed in the market, the marketing function plays a vital role. They are the ones who has to develop branding in the market, make the customers aware of product and sell them. This is a continuous process.

Operations management in an organization is a function who is responsible for managing all the aspects of business services. This involves planning, co-ordinating, prioritizing, organising and controlling. There are many things which needs to be focussed in Operations management,

Dependability
Flexibility
So, in Operations management, planning plays a vital role. At the planning stage itself an organization will plan on how the management will utilize the resources, product design, cost involved, financial management. Most of the things will be planned appropriately and then further actions will be taken. The concept of efficiency and effectiveness in any company revolves around the operations management. Managing operations is all about getting the making the process work right. Operations management supplements all other activities of an organization. There are tools and techniques used in operations management to get the things done without any issue. Hence operations management is very important to any organization.
Quality is one important thing which is expected in any product we buy in the market. Any product we buy the basic expectation from any company is quality. If the quality is not good no product can win in the market. Quality means meeting the customer expectation when a customer buy any product. If the expectation is not met the customer will be unhappy and he will move to another product.
To explain the customer expectation, satisfaction dissatisfaction, I would like to take an example which can be explained better. Taking an example of mobile network, the basic expectation from a customer is ,
There should be a good network
There should not be any buffering when an internet is used
Vendor should provide a good tariff plan
If any complaint is raised, there should be a quick turnaround
There are many times and due to many reasons customer may not see the network what is being expected or internet may not work according to the needs, there are chances that when doing an important work the network does not support which may lead to customer dissatisfaction. This can happen due to lack of co-ordination between 2 different departments of an organization. For example when buying the network selling department just for the sake of sales must have promised things which may not come in the tariff what the user is buying and when the customer call up the help desk they might give some other information which does not meet what customer is looking for. This is a classic example of how lack of coordination happens between two different department in an organization and leads to customer dissatisfaction.
