Question
Determine the effect of varying x on the computed result for the second derivative, for the function f(x) = 5 + 10x – 4x^2 + 6x^3. The second derivative is to be determined at x = 1. Using a computer or a calculator, calculate the second derivative at x = 1 with x = 0.5, 0.1, 0.05, and 0.01. Compare the results obtained with the exact value of 28
I am attempting to write a matlab code that will call these functions and solve based on the only input of del X. I dont need the analytical soln, only with the Matlab
Explanation / Answer
That's not long an expression to just build as an anonymous function
handle. Again, of course, with the caveat that you've just aliased the
builtin MIN() function which is _a_very_bad_thing_ (tm).
It doesn't work as written, agreed, but there is the STR2FUNC() option.
Looks like you need to read up thoroughly on functions, handles and
probably the examples on using the minimization functions that
illustrate much of these techniques to handle the usual problems.
