Hello, would please help me with the question bellow?
It does not matter what store. Just the concept should be sufficient.
Visit at least TWO supermarkets of different chains
For the checkout and shelf stocking operations of a supermarket, combining your observations from the two visited
(a) Identify the markets visited;
(b) Identify the roles involved in the business;
(c) Identify the output(s) each role need from the database for each role;
(d) Identify the entities (collections of data) needed to produce those outputs;
(e) Make a list of the names of likely data items ("attributes") that belong in each entity (each entity have a different list of data items);
(f) When a customer walks up to the checkout with "produce" (fruits or vegetables), which probably do not have bar codes that a laser scanner would read, how does the cashier tell the cash register what the charge should be? Determine how produce items are identified.
Explanation / Answer
a) The two supermarkets are Bestprice and the Dmart.
b) The main roles involved in the business are to make available the new varsities, to make available all the types of foods, to maintain all the household groceries and personal care items, to sell all the organic foods, to maintain quality products.
c) The output for the roles needed are not different in the super market business the main goal is to sell. So the only output finally required is the sales.
d) The entities need are the different goods of specific type mentioned and the customer entity which is most needed one for the required output.
e) for the goods entity the attributes required are food type, item no, item name, grocery sold, cost of the item, and for the customer entity just required telephone no, membership id, purchased amount,list of items purchased.
f) When a customer wants to buy vegetables or fruits in the supermarket generally those doesn't have the barcodes. The general procedure which supermarkets does is they maintain separate weighing machine to weigh the produce and they manually enter the weight in the system or in some places that weighing machine produces barcodes sticker with wait.
In some other supermarkets that laser scanner machine itself can weigh the fruits or vegetables this is the latest technology now using by super markets they just put those in that laser scanner that scanner itself weighs and produces bill.
