Tesco is one of the largest retailer comprises of food and drug stores industry in UK with its Headquarter in Cheshunt, Britain (Tesco, 2017). The CEO of Tesco is David J. Lewis and Chairman John Allan. Tesco offers its customers best of services with 24 hours of shopping and thousands of clicks and collect options from anywhere in UK. The approach of strategic planning in Tesco is to tackle the environmental and social challenges which are related to business and customers and creation of value for the company.
The mission of Tesco is ‘to be the champion for its customers so that they enjoy shopping and better quality of life’. Setting more number of retail stores and improving its customer services through implementing of computerised machineries will save time and handle customers better. Tesco’s vision is to take up small actions which will bring big differences. In addition changing views of people of UK by providing food items and drugs on time and making life better are vision of the company. The objective of Tesco is to meet the requirements of different customers and attain competitive advantage in the market.
Tesco’s goal is increasing market share, consistent sustainable development and meeting targeted sales growth continuously. Tesco’s core competencies are its effective team performances, competent, efficient and responsible managerial and leadership skills. Effective team work, coordination and control by managers and team leader helps to avail scopes and take risks and challenges in business (Tesco, 2017). With net profits of around £3.4 billion Tesco has become the largest British retailer and one of the world’s leading retail outlets on three continents.As a conglomerateTesco also offers alternative goods and services such as insurance, banking and online shopping. There is food stocks mainly in Tesco express with emphasis on product margins which is high, along with daily requirements of smaller households, pensioners and for serving the diverse population. The competitors of Tesco are Walmart and Nestle.
Technological factors like ICT with internet facility, SEO, nano-technology, whatsapp, skype facilitatesavailable will helps inreaching information faster and communicating effectively (Rothaermel, 2014). New methods and competitor’s strategies can be researched and studied to take suitable decision for formulation of strategy. Company’s website can be useful to make people aware and get feedback, ideas and opinions from different stakeholders regarding formulation ofnew strategy. Comparing and understanding motive of competitors is possible through researching in the internet.
Tesco uses various elements of internet marketing for its business like e-business, digital marketing and e-commerce. Digital marketing in Tesco creates multiple platforms and various channels for customer base where information is reached in few seconds. Effective relationship with customers and clients is built along with scopes to get relevant data, formatting and prompt communication in very less time. E-commerce is another very effective element in internet marketing which is used to advertise and promote in website of Tesco. Immediate updating of required changes is created and targeted customers can view the change being online in webpages through e-commerce facility. E-Business is a very suitable element which helps in adaptive and closed loop marketing through internet. Adaptive in the sense, there is sufficient information provided to customers with helpline and online chat advantage to clear queries any time which is creating effective B2C and C2B relationship. Closed loop means there is systematic planning, programming of the whole process of internet marketing starting form order taking, payment confirmation and delivery of items with reviews and feedback advantage for customers in one closed circle. Internal micro environment of Tesco like employees training methods, informing urgency meetings, new assignment explanation can be done through internet marketing. Product knowledge, stakeholders’ motivation and verification can be more systematic by understanding macro environment like social changes, government regulations or monetary policies adopted. Hence, using the various elements of internet marketing in the operation and functioning of business will increase market share by retaining existing customers and attracting new customers in Tesco.
Internet Marketing Plan can be carried out by situational analysis and KPI in internet marketing for Tesco. Hence, designing suitable internet marketing plan will create business scopes for Tesco and increase sales.
