Question
how important is computer software to an engineer? I'm doing a response too that and i feel like mine isn't "enough". here is my response.
I agree with Ken on the issue. Engineers should be proficient in using computer software. If i was an engineer, i would want to make sure i know everythong about software. I would need to know how to be more efficient in using software. Safety is part of an engineers code of ethics and it is the engineers job to recongnize potential threats. I also believe that you can actually do calculations by hand, it shows that a person is competent in their field of work.
here is the article i responded too.

Explanation / Answer
The engineers ethically interact with computers software can be summarized as follows:
1) The ethical norms reviews the emphasizes the necessity for engineers to work only in their areas of competence. computer softwares are used to protect the safety of the pubic,
2) Computer software is employed because of the efficiency demanded by the corporate world to check the potentiality and to provide designs that are safer and more efficient.
3) Computer Software tools is ethically obligated when time, efficiency, and safety requirements preclude the use of hand calculations.
4) It is not ethical to use computer software when the engineer cannot demonstrate competency by understanding the limits of the machine.
5) The competent engineer creates a working environment in which semantic methods are used to approach the verification of simple and complex computer programs.
The above mensioned points states that it is ethical for an engineer to use an engineering program to solve a problem even if he or she cannot complete the calculations manually.
