Question
I am having trouble identifying this unknown bacteria for a class. The image below was a gram stain that was performed. This unknown is in the list of bacteria provided below, I just am having difficulty figuring out exactly which one. If anyone could determine which it is exactly and WHY, that would be greatly appreciated!
Below is an Endospore stain that was performed.

This unknown is in the list of bacteria provided below, I just am having difficulty figuring out exactly which one. If anyone could determine which it is exactly and WHY, that would be greatly appreciated! Below is an Endospore stain that was performed.Explanation / Answer
Some bacteria, after staining with the Gram stain, yield a gram-variable pattern (a mixture of gram positive- blue and gram negative pink cells): a mix of pink and purple cells are seen. The genera Actinomyces, Arthobacter, Corynebacterium, Mycobacterium, and Propionibacterium have cell walls particularly sensitive to breakage during cell division, resulting in gram-negative staining of these gram-positive cells.
And In case of cultures of Bacillus here there could have been a decrease in peptidoglycan thickness during growth which coincides with an increase in the number of cells that stain gram-negative. this is the reason why though they're gram postive by nature are still stained pink here.
In addition, in all bacteria stained using the Gram stain, the age of the culture may influence the results of the stain.
in the picture above, they are gram negative rods and the bacilli are the bacterial that appear like rods, thus the organism under view could be Bacillus megaterium. besides as an endospore staining has also been performed, this can be confirmed that the oprganism is a baccilus as- Bacillus is a common aerobic genus whose species can form endospores.
Spores are extremely resistant structures, difficult to destroy with heat or other physical and chemical disinfecting agents.
Considering the shape- rod shaped and the formation of the tjhick endospore, we cannot confuse this with any other bacterial species . as the rest are cocci, spiral etc and they are shaped different. staph are cocci, thiugh capsulated, hence this should be Baccilus
