1. Agricultural runoff is a major source of pesticide and excess nutrient pollution. This is a particular problem in Indiana. Why do you think more has not been done to control these contaminants?

Answer)

Pesticide and Nutrient pollution is a very serious problem where the environment is harmed by having excess nitrogen and phosphorus in the air and water. Too much of the nitrogen and phosphorus in the air and water pollutes the air and water and thus harms the humans by having adverse effects on the health. Agricultural runoff is when the water is sent from the farm fields due to irrigation, rain, or melted snow. This runoff contains fertilizers, pesticides and excess nutrient which causes the pollution. This is a problem in many parts of the world including as mentioned Indiana.

It has to be realized by the farmers and the government should take actions to let people know to control these contaminants. Thus, unless the farmers know of the harmful effects of Agricultural runoff and also come by and learn some methods to prevent Agricultural runoff, they would not stop using the same old process which is the reason for the Agricultural runoff. Also, uses of nitrogen and phosphorus-based substances in pesticide and nutrients should be reduced, controlled so that Agricultural runoff does not happen. Government and NGOs and others also have to take actions regarding this.
