Question
Voters complained about the long wait times in the last election. For this election, the voting booth was outfitted with new touchscreen technology. Using computer simulation to analyze the performance of the queuing system, the following are the simulated data- The first voter arrives five minutes after it opens and then the interarrival times for the next four voters in order are three minutes, nine minutes, one minute, and four minutes, after which there is a long delay until the next voter arrives. The service times for these first five voters (in order) are eight minutes, six minutes, two minutes, four minutes, and seven minutes.
(1) Explain why this is a queuing system. Identify the customer, server, and queuing process.
(2) Show the evolution of customers (similar to lecture session's Herr Cutter example).
(3) Show the evolution over with 2 voting booths
(4)-(5) What is your analysis and recommendation regarding the installation of 2 voting booths instead of just 1 voting booth?
Explanation / Answer
Answer:-
Answer-1:-
This is queuing system with voting machine the server, voters being customer to server and voters are queuing to access the server to put their votes hence queuing up in queue process.
Answer-2:-
Insights of the lecture is not there hence cannot comment on same.
Answer-3:-
First 5 voters arrival is 5 mins, 3 mins, 9 mins, 1 min, 4 mins making total of first 5 arrival is 22 mins. With 2 servers in place and time to do voting suppose is 3 mins, then less people would be in queue as each server will reduce 2 people in 3 mins making less people to wait. In this example first person will get service immediately on arrival, so would second person. While first two get over, third and fourth person would get immediately so would 5th arrival.
Answer-4:-
With 2 booth the queuing system will have less waiting time for voters, hence it is fruitful to have 2 booths.
