Problem 2: In the given two bus single breaker setup, answer the following questions clearly in steps with re-drawings of the bus arrangement. (Answer must be typed a. How does an operator perform maintenance on Circuit Breaker CBc with minimum disturbances to the system? b Can an operator perform maintenance on Circuit Breakers CBc and CBo at the same time without weakening the system overall protection? #1 #2 A B C D Problem 3: In the double-bus arrangement shown below, Circuit Breaker B3 must be taken out of service for repair Starting with all equipments in service, make a list of operations required to take the CB out of service, and to return it to service. Remember that disconnect switches are generally not designed to break or make load current. (Answer must be typed) 2 L1Explanation / Answer
problem2.
a). Maintenance of any circuit breaker requires shutdown of the corresponding circuit/line. When maintaining the breaker CBc ,all of the lines that are normally connected to the BUS 2 are transferred to the BUS 1, the breaker CBc is bypassed by transferring its line to the BUS 2 and the bus tie breaker becomes the line breaker. Therefore it allows the breaker to be maintained without de-energizing the associated line.
b). No, an operator cannot perform the maintenance of both the breakers at the same time without weakening the system overall protection. In two bus single breaker system setup Only one breaker can be maintained at a time. This is because the protective relaying associated with the buses and the line whose breaker is being maintained needs to be reconfigured
