Question

C. Suppose a client computer (128.192.95.32) in Build- ing B in Figure 5-15 requests a large Web page from the server in Building A (www1.anyorg.com) Assume that the client computer has just been turned on and does not know any addresses other than those in its configuration tables. Assume that all gateways and Web servers know all network layer and data link layer addresses. a. Explain what messages would be sent and how they would flow through the network to deliver the Web page request to the server. b. Explain what messages would be sent and how they would flow through the network as the Web server sent the requested page to the client.

Explanation / Answer

A). First of the entire given client computer (128.192.65.32) is belong to the Class B network. We know that one of the commonly used services on internet is World Wide Web (www). HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) is used by web browser and web server to communicate each other over the Internet. It is an application protocol and it is used to talk with other application. It sits on top of the TCP layer.

If the address resolution cannot happen at default DNS server then the request will be passed up the DNS hierarchy till the address is resolved. The resolved ip address will then be sent back to the client for actual HTTP request.HTTP is connection less text based protocol. When a Client Web browser send a request to web server.

B). The given client IP address belong to Class C address, and subnet mask, so it can determine the part of network subnet. When the requested is generated through web URL the IP of DNS server translate application layer address into IP address. The IP address passes of an IP through gateway. (Request passes through router) outside of it subnet, the message is passes through router according to its routing table address outside. If the router uses the static routing and there is only one connection is formed, when router is used dynamic routing all messages must flow.

C)If the webpage contains several images then those woould be retrieved via seprate HTTP request for each image and will be rendered on the browser at the client computer. A client computer requested a web page from web server and a web page contain a high resolution image, It take the time to load the web page on client computer. It is totally depends on the network connectivity, also it lead the response time is too high. We know that data is transferred from one machine to another machine by frame over the network. When the frame size is large and the client computer is unable to getting the frame. This may be chance of packet losing and resultant image is not loaded on client computer.
