1.What is the purpose of cable splicing when repairing undersea fiber optic cables.
Answer)
Repairing undersea cables is not easy when the network goes down or there is some fault in the undersea cables that give out faulty transmissions. Fir, the network or telecom operator locate the damaged area zeroing down on the part which is having the problem. The area of the problem is calculated using time delay from the reflected signal, where the send signal pulses through the cable from one end. After detection of the area, the cable is lifted from the sea bed using hooks and then dragged onto a ship for repair.
The faulty cable is then spliced on the ship and then joined with a fresh cable and then sealed with a watertight and anticorrosive covering and then the cable returns to the undersea. Splicing of the cables is the process where the two terminals of the cables conductors are connected, which is joining the cable conductors and repairing them. Cable splicing has some steps as:
Preparation of the surface
Connecting the cable conductors
Insulation of the connected cables part
Shielding and Jacketing the cable part connection
