Question
CAN YOU HELP ANSWER BOTH OF THESE PLEASE?
1. You have two computers connected by an Ethernet hub at home. Is this a LAN, a MAN, or a WAN? What if the same computers are connected directly via a cable without a hub, can you call it a network? If so, what kind? Explain your reasons in both cases 2. What happens if one of the stations is unplugged in the bus topology of Figure 1 below? Explain. What is the impact of disconnecting one of the stations in Figure 2 below? Justify your answer. Hub Drop line Drop line Drop line Cable end Cable end Tap Tap Tap Figure 1. A bus topology connecting three stations Figure 2. A star topology connecting four stationsExplanation / Answer
1. Local Area Connection (LAN) our machines are in same building and connected directly via hub or switch. Wireless networking is also considered as LAN,but connection to ISP is part of MAN. IN both cases the connection creates is LAN as both connected via cable without hub and this scenario is demonstrated as part of LAN.Since in both cases the computers are connected via cable without hub which creates a local connection.
2. BUs topolgy is generally refers as line topology. In this setup the devices are connected to internet and all the systems are being placed in a line. One way to think about bus topology is that the line connected to all of the devices in the network like an aisle along which a signal travels to find the node to which it is to be delivered. Typically, the cable in the bus topology has two end terminals that dampen the signal so that it does not keep moving from one end of the network to the other.
If one of the station is unplugged in the bus topolgy then the data flow will be disrupted as all systems are being connected with single network and breakdown of system means break in main line.
Considering another case of Star topology which is the most popular network topology in businesses today. It consists of nodes connected to a central hub. If a node in this topology fails then only that node will be affected.
