Question

We will be creating a database in class over the next couple weeks as a group. Outside of class, you will design and implement a database of your own. You will have to come up with an idea of your own that you are interested in. It could be a hobby, a family information system, a catalog of all your music, movies, or books, or a sports tracker. I want to keep this project simple. Your database will consist of 3 tables. Each will be related to each other. One of the tables will be a person table. For example, if you have a database about music, one of the tables would be the artist table. if you had a table about football, one table would be the player's table.
Submit two ideas for a project. Each idea should be about a paragraph in length and provide enough detail for the average person to understand. Explain why you want to do each of the projects. List 3 possible tables (remember to include the "person" table described above).

Explanation / Answer

The idea is to create a database for employees of any organization to understand the mood of their employees and in turn, take measures to improve conditions for them. The tables would be as follows. Employee, Songs, Websites. Employee table would contain necessary attributes to identify the employee, 'Employee Id', 'Employee name', 'Employee email' to name a few. Since this is an additional database for employees of a company, it won't require much information about the employee as the company already has it in their main database. Songs table would have attributes such as 'Empoyee id', Song name', 'Song genre', 'Count' (Number of times the song was heard) and Websites table would have attributes like 'Employee id', 'Website link' (metadata of the website could be used to understand the type of website), 'Count'. Both these tables would be updated weekly and would be used to infer mood of the employees. If a particular employee has been listening to sad songs frequently and visiting spiritual websites, the company can infer that the employee is in some kind of problem and he could be helped or counselled by the company. Email attribute could be used to send motivating or appropriate messages to the employee depending on the data of the other two tables. If the employee's data reflects happiness, the company can infer that its existing norms are good enough. To keep employees happy and satisfied is important for a company to render satisfactory outcomes.

A database for an NGO with tables namely, Student, Checkup Details, Health. Student table would contain attributes such as Name, Student id, age to identify the student. Health table would contain attributes such as 'Disease Diagnosed (multi-value attribute)', 'Student id', 'Health Centre'. Checkup Details would contain attributes such as 'Student id', 'last checkup date', 'next check up date'. A student maybe diagnosed with more than one disease, Health table would keep track of that. Purpose of the datatbase would be to keep track of monthly or weekly checkups of a student according to the disease diagnosed.

More attributes would be included in the development stage of the database. These are just ideas to strat with as mentioned in the question.
