The software is the programs that are needed to accomplish the input, processing, output, storage, and control activities of information systems.

Computer software is typically classified into two major types of programs: system software and application software.

The software is a program that enables a computer to perform a specific task, as opposed to the physical components of the system.

System software is also known as the operating system and includes Microsoft Windows, Apple's OSX and Linux, while application software refers to

programs that perform tasks and includes Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Apple iTunes.

Application software is programs that direct the performance of a particular use, or application, of computers to meet the information processing needs of end users. They include software such as word processing and spreadsheet packages, as well as internally or externally developed software that

is designed to meet the specific needs of an organization.

Two types of packages are available:

1. Vertical packages - assist users within a specific industry segment. Examples include packages that help to manage construction projects,

keep track of the inventory of hospitals.

2. Horizontal packages - can perform a certain general function, such as accounting, or office automation, for a range of businesses.

Some application packages focus on a single task, such as word processing others, called integrated software include several applications.

User-written software includes the spreadsheet.

Different application software

An application suite consists of multiple applications bundled together. They usually have related functions, features and user interfaces, and may

be able to interact with each other, e.g. open each other's files. Business applications often come in suites, e.g. Microsoft Office, LibreOffice,

which bundle together a word processor, a spreadsheet, etc but suites exist for other purposes, e.g. graphics.

Enterprise software addresses the needs of an entire organization's processes and data flows, across several departments, often in a large distributed environment.

Examples include enterprise resource planning systems, customer relationship management systems, and supply chain management software.

Departmental Software is a sub-type of enterprise software with a focus on smaller organizations or groups within a large organization.

Information worker software lets users create and manage information, often for individual projects within a department, in contrast to enterprise management.

Examples include time management, resource management, analytical, collaborative and documentation tools. Word processors, spreadsheets, email and blog clients,

personal information system and individual media editors may aid in multiple information worker tasks.

Content access software is used primarily to access content without editing but may include software that allows for content editing. Such software addresses the needs of

individuals and groups to consume digital entertainment and published digital content.

Media development software generates print and electronic media for others to consume, most often in a commercial or educational setting.

This includes graphic-art software, desktop publishing software, multimedia development software, HTML editors.

Product engineering software is used in developing hardware and software products.

This includes computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), computer language editing and compiling tools.

Entertainment Software can refer to video games, screensavers, programs to display motion pictures or play recorded music, and other forms of entertainment

which can be experienced through the use of a computing device.

Applications can also be classified by computing platforms such as a particular operating system, a delivery network such as in cloud computing and Web applications,

or delivery devices such as mobile apps for mobile devices.

The operating system itself can be considered application software when performing simple calculating, measuring, rendering, and word processing tasks not used to control hardware

via command-line interface or graphical user interface.

Microsoft Office is available in different languages and is supported by Windows, Mac and most Linux variants. It mainly consists of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Outlook and

Publisher applications.

Microsoft Word Helps users by creating text documents.

Microsoft Excel: Creates simple to complex data/numerical spreadsheets.

Microsoft PowerPoint: Stand-alone application for creating professional multimedia presentations.

Microsoft Access: Database management application.

Microsoft Publisher: Introductory application for creating and publishing marketing materials.

Microsoft OneNote: Alternate to a paper notebook, it enables a user to neatly organize their notes.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a freeware web browser developed by Google LLC for Microsoft Windows, to Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android.

Google Chrome features a minimalistic user interface.

Chrome allows users to synchronize their bookmarks, history, and settings across all devices with the browser installed by sending and receiving data through a chosen Google Account,

which in turn updates all signed-in instances of Chrome.

A spreadsheet is an interactive computer application for an organization, analysis, and storage of data in tabular form.

spreadsheets are developed as computerized simulations of paper accounting worksheets.The program operates on data entered in cells of a table. Each cell may contain either numeric or

text data, or the results of formulas that automatically calculate and display a value based on the contents of other cells.

Besides performing basic arithmetic and mathematical functions, modern spreadsheets provide built-in functions for common financial and statistical operations. Such calculations as

net present value or standard deviation can be applied to tabular data with a pre-programmed function in a formula.
