Picture it, it is 1979 on the campus of the University of Alabama. UA football are National Champions (somethings never change) and enrollment has grown to over 17,000 students (while other things do). This assignment are requires you to only use the tools and resources available to you in 1979 to complete some tasks that every college student may need to do. You may want to reach out and talk to a parent, grandparent or friend than can lend you a hand with specifics.
Consider each of the following scenarios as if it was the year 1979, and develop the approach you think you may take to retrieve or provide information needed without the ability to look it up or send it online. You may also ask an older friend or family member how they did these things to help develop your response. Please use complete sentences and be specific in your responses. 1) Sharing Pictures: Your family just developed a roll of film from the family camera and discovered a great picture of the family. The picture is one the family would like to share with relatives that live in various states. How would you go about sharing this picture with others? 2) Research Resources: Your instructor has assigned a research paper on the benefits of/ playing a musical instrument, and the paper requires 3 different types of resources. Without using the internet, how would you find these resources and what could they be (remember, I am looking for 3 different types of resources)? 4 3) Finding a Job: You are getting ready to graduate from the University of Alabama in May 1979, and you are ready to begin your job hunt. You think you would like to find a job in Cincinnati, Ohio. How would you go about finding and applying for jobs in Cincinnati if you are living in Tuscaloosa and did not have the electronic abilities..vou do today (2018).? + 4) Finding the best price: Let's say there is something you need, (whether a textbook or a specific pair of shoes). The item is sold at various stores. Without using the internet, how would you go about finding the best place (lowest price) to purchase the item?+Explanation / Answer
Sharing Pictures: In 1970s the internet was not started so sharing of information was not so easy as these days. Now if we have to share pictures we have endless applications but in 1979 if we had to share pictures the only way to do it was to take a physical copy of the picture and share it with the other family members. There were Polaroid cameras that would take out picture immediately. But to share pictures with family members in other state using physical copy and sending them through post was the only option;
Research resources: Back in 1970s there were no search engines or digital libraries, the only way to research was going to library and consult actual books, Journals, Magazines and Newspapers, encyclopaedias. Some bookstores used to keep different sorts of publications people use to consult that for their research work. Or way was collaboration with friends in guidance of your mentor to discuss among each other and use our knowledge.
Finding a job: One way was to with networking (some business or social contact) in Cincinnati who can help you find a job. Other way was to write to some companies in Cincinnati by post, starting with a request for an application form and details of how to apply. There were ads in newspaper where you can look for all jobs in a Cincinnati and apply through post or in person. Employment agencies were there to help you find a job in particular city also.
Finding the best price: There were no online shops or other digital media to see the product price back in 1979. The most popular way of getting information was word of mouth and by seeing advertisements in newspaper or on tv. Going to different shops and comparing price was another common way.
