Think about a type of website such as a resume site, product site, or information site that you would like to create for this class.
Find and compare two websites of a similar type.
Review each website and pay attention to:
Page layout
Navigation
Color and graphics
Multimedia
Content presentation
Functionality
Accessibility
Brower compatibility
Create a 1-page document or 7-slide PowerPoint® presentation comparing the two sites against each other and the Website Design Best Practices Checklist (located in the activity resource). Additionally, consider what design features you will add to your site and why.
Explanation / Answer
I have compared two product websites
OPPO Phones https://www.oppo.com
and Samsung Phone website http://www.samsung.com/in/.
PageLayout :
Both of the websites have shown menus on top of the homepage but OPPO displays right side of page and Samsung displays on left of page. Samsung Web site home page is more attractive and with full of animation and graphics when compared to OPPO. Some pages are using left- side menus also.
Samsung on Single Home page itself highlights its important product releases which is suitable of mobile screen.
Navigation:
In Samsung website Menus are Smart and well developed in JQuery or JavaScript. Navigating to next page is attractive and slow since more graphics are used.
In OPPO website menus are normal and some menu options replace page with new page and some will display with same home page options.
Color and graphics:
Samsung is using more color, graphics and animation with latest technologies, which are attractive and information, but OPPO is using less colors more white and green. Samsung gives its products full 3D views of its products through graphics.
Multimedia:
Samsung website contains full of multimedia features in showing menus selecting options also contains videos and product photos which is using Rich Internet Technologies when compared to OPPO.
Even buttons in Samsung site are added with multimedia effects changing color and graphics.
Content presentation:
More content is displayed in single page for both the websites and OPPO is showing mostly all its products in single page without much navigation. Since both are showing more images about their products as it is essential now-a-days as they are viewed in mobiles. For searching Samsung is showing more nearer and easier information for user as there are various products with selection of options for user. Both uses Google Maps for locations finding.
Functionality:
Functionality specifies the intention of designing a website, for both sites functionality is good but more effective in Samsung where it shows all its product features in different types also where to buy and comparison with its products and allows users to select product depending upon its choice of feature selection. OPPO show single product details without comparison of other products.
Accessibility:
Both websites are accessible by any user also by touch we can view more features for both Samsung /OPPO. Websites contains Advertisements with some videos with audio which will allow users to hear and know about its products easily.
Brower compatibility:
Since both the website belongs to international products they are designed to work on any browser(s) commonly used in phones or in computer devices. This is feature is essential as the website should reach various people at different corners of globe to know information about product. As the both sites uses JavaScript and HTML 5 features they can be used in any of the modern web browsers which usually supports these features.
Website Design View:
By observing above websites my view is to design a website which follows above best design practices with high performance and easily understandable to user. Local language support should be added to websites and menus should be consolidated by not showing too many menus and options which is confusing and user cannot remember these.
Entire website should have attractive and simple graphics and more information at single page itself rather than more navigation as most of the users are now-a-days using mobiles for browsing.
Depending upon the percentage of usage of devices we should add accessibility and compatibility and see that the functionality of website is correct and it is targeting intended users with less number of pages. As only 3 pages are requirement for this question.
Home page with About us and new products and upcoming products, Second page with Location of stores its details and third contact information with feedback.
