Question

please please please the answer comutrized keyboard not handwriting COMPUTER NETWORK IT 210 Answer the following: 1.     Discuss whether the arrived packet with the following M bit values, is the first fragment, the last fragment, or a middle fragment: a.      M bit value equals to 0 b.     M bit value equals to 1 c.      M bit value equals to 1 and a fragmentation offset value of 0 2.     A packet has arrived in which the offset value is 175, the value of HLEN is 5, and the value of the total length field is 200. What are the numbers of the first byte and the last byte?

Explanation / Answer

1.

(a.) For M = 0

There is no fragments and therefore the fragment is the last one.

(b) For M = 1

There is at least one more fragment, hence it can be the first or middle fragment but can't be the last one.

(c.) For M =1 and fragment offset = 0

As M = 1, it is first or middle fragment but as the offset is 0, the fragment will be the first.

2. Offset = 175

HLEN = 5

Total field length = 200.

The first byte = 175 * 8 = 1400

Header length = 5 * 4 = 20 bytes

Therefore bytes in datagram = 200 - 20 = 180.

Now we have first byte at 1400, the last byte will be 1400 + 180 = 1580 - 1 = 1579
