Final Project
Final Project
You are the CIO (or the chief architect assisting the CIO) of a health care institution. You have been asked by the Board and CEO to develop a comprehensive IT system implementation plan to help improve the performance of this health care institution. Your plan should make a compelling business case of the proposed implementation of new systems, and some detail around how you plan to execute and fund the plan. You have to take into account the current resources in the organization, the strength and weaknesses, and identify any alliance and obstacles alike.
You will build your partial plan in Modules 2, 4, and 6. See below for more details.
Part 1 (Module 2)
Describe the health care institution, its mission, business model, and the governance structure. Define the Project to be implemented. Put this project into context by describing the overall IT Plan, the planning time horizons, and organizational budgeting. Compose your Sponsorship Team and your Implementation Team.
Part 2 (Module 4)
If you have an information system that has been chosen for implementation, describe the process for request for proposal and then for selection process. If you do not have a system that has been chosen for implementation, go to the Gartner Group’s latest reports, HIMSS, and other resources, and select two or three systems for analysis by the decision making group.
Develop an overall timeline for the planning process.
Build the business case for the implementation of this new system.
Develop a chart of the key stakeholders and their likely pros and cons – what are your persuasive arguments?
Part 3 (Module 6)
Develop the Infrastructure Roadmap for the project, with cost-benefit analysis of different options, and initiate a cost estimate for budgetary purpose. Detail specifics on additional personnel that will be needed on a full and/or part-time basis for implementation and then for maintenance.
Will roles change internally as a result of implementation (i.e., will someone be displaced by technology)?
What are the key design considerations?
In Module 8, incorporate any relevant revision of your plan from Parts 1-3 listed above, and finalize a plan for IT system implementation within a health care system.
