Question
Wondering if someone could help me out with the following questions?
This assignment is designed to give you practice applying the normalization process on poorly designed tables that contain data. It consists of five exercises, each of which is worth 20 points, for a total of 100 points possible. The objective for each exercise is for you to transform the existing table into a set of tables, each of which is at least in third normal form. Some sample data has been provided to help you identify dependencies between attributes. Beware, however, that while data can help you identify dependencies, it does not always reveal every dependency and can sometimes even obfuscate some of the dependencies that do exist. For each exercise, describe the name of each table along with the attributes, primary key field(s), and foreign key field(s) if they exist. You do not need to show the work that led you to your solution. Be sure to work through the checklist at the end of the process to make sure your tables are optimally designed. Use the notation described in the normalization process document described in class to express your answers. For a given table, put its name in capital letters and its attributes within parentheses. Underline the primary key fields and italicize any foreign key fields, if they exist. If a field is both a foreign key and part of a composite primary key, both underline and italicize it. Required fields should be in a boldface font, while optional fonts should not be in boldface. The table’s name should be bold faced as well. The answer should be in a word document.
Exercise 4 Make 'Em and Break 'Em is a holding company that manages textbooks for a series of publishers. Every book is entered in with a unique ISBN as shown in the table below. The database isn't right, however, because a report was recently run where the same ISBN was assigned to two completely different books with different authors Author Last Name ISBN Publisher Royalty Edition Book Title Mating Habits of a a Floppy Disk Assemble a Hard Drive in 5 Minutes Assemble a Hard Drive in 5 Minutes 234 Johnson 234Johnson 326 Brophy 2.5% 3.0% 1.5% 1.0% 237234789 7489232 23 237489232 234722341 Underwater Basket Weaving Made Easy 234 Johnson Pearson Analyze and fix the table by restructuring the existing table and/or creating additional tables as needed until all tables meet 3NF criteria Exercise 5 Roadkill Retailers provides each store with a "database" that consists of a single table. The table keeps track of products, which can belong to one or more departments. Each department has a set of buyers, and a given buyer can provide products to more than one department. The table is presented below with some sample data. Examine and modify the table as needed (creating additional, related tables if necessary) so that it is not subject to anomalies Product Dept Budget Buyer Name Product Name ID 23 86 42 53 12 Cadbury Caramel Eggs Cadbury Creme Eggs Cadbury Mini Eggs Matchbox Racing Car Stuffed Animal Groceries Groceries Groceries Toys Toys Code 233 233 233 523 523Explanation / Answer
