Question
7. The figure below shows a small Ethernet LAN. Answer the following questions. (a) What kind of network topology is used? (b) Assume stations are connected through a switch and interfaces operate in half-duplex mode. Station D sends a frame to the server while Station A sends a frame to Station D. Is there any frame collision? (c) Repeat the previous question if interfaces operate in full-duplex mode. (d) Show one situation where a collision could happen with stations connected through a switch and full-duplex ports. ! ServerExplanation / Answer
a)----- star networt topology is used because all host connected with only one server.
In its simplest form, a star network consists of one central hubwhich acts as a conduit to transmit messages. In star topology, every host is connected to a central hub.A star network is an implementation of a spoke–hub distribution paradigm in computer networks.
b)--- There is collision of frames due to half duplex mode.Half duplex mode allow only one host to transmit and other only can receive. And a network switch forwards data only to the devices that need to receive it. When both A and D's frame meet at switch there is collision.
c)------There is no collision of frames due to full duplex mode.Full duplex mode allow the host send and receive simultaneously.
d)--------When station A transmiting data to all station and all other station want to send data to another station , mode is full duplex so there is no problem to send frame but all stations receiving A's frames so stations can not receive different frame(two frames) at a time. so there is collision in all the frames.
