It is important to understand that work and life are interdependent. Work is the professional part of the life which earns livelihood for the individual and his/her dependents. Life usually refers to personal life of the individual which includes the time he/she spends with the family and friends. In a world with the amount of competition around and the thrust to improve the standard of living on a continuous basis, individuals are spending a lot of time in work to earn money. This is resulting in lesser time for personal lives as 30-40 years are spent in working, earning money and investing.

With the increase in work and higher position comes greater responsibilities as well has higher packages, further decreasing the time spend by the individuals with friends and family. Also, a wide range of health issues are affecting the individuals due to the increased stress. Though work-life balance concept is there since ages, it is more recognized now due to the increased pressure on the workforce and the criticism against the corporate companies. Realizing this, firms have been taking up initiatives to provide a work-life balance to the individuals by providing them benefits like paid holidays, work from home facility, switching off from work completely on weekends, conducting events and throwing parties etc.
