Question
1) Explain why it is necessary to examine a number of alternative system concepts prior to finalizing a set of system performance requirements. What are the likely results of failing to examine a sufficient range of such concepts?
2)What are IPTs? In your own words, what are the four main benefits of IPTs?
3) In considering potential system concepts to meet the operational requirements for a new system, there is frequently a particular concept that appears to be an obvious solution to the system requirements. Knowing that premature focusing on a “point solution” is a poor systems engineering practice, describe two approaches for identifying a range of alternative system concepts for consideration.

Explanation / Answer
Ans 1- It is important to examine a number of alternative system concepts before finalizing a set of system performance requirements to make sure that these requirements are sufficient enough to avert the unintentional reduction in the range of possible system configuration. The failing to examine a sufficient range of concepts will understate the widening and building of more competitive systems.
Ans 2- IPT stands for the Integrated Product Team. It is a group of people whose main objectives are to produce a solution that satisfies the initially defined requirements and also to give effective solutions for complex development programs. Main four benefits of IPTs are a) Decision can be made faster.
b)There will be fewer mistakes.
c)There will be more creative and innovative ideas.
d) There will be a rapid delivery of solutions.
Ans 3- The impact of a risk factor can be reduced by having an alternative system approach. It also gives guidelines for constant and realistic operational requirements. The two approaches are
a) Using the existing system as Ground: In this, the existing system serves as a model that helps in creating a new model. All the limitations are reduced with minimum or no failures giving a successful start too new system.
b)Partition into major subsystem: In this, the system is divided into subsystems to reduce the complexity of larger systems.
