Question

A local food-chain FOODIE operates about 8 stores in a city. Each individual stores have their own transactional systems (ORDER) that takes orders and fulfils food orders. Customers pay either through Cash or credit cards. Cash is processed using REGISTER system whereas SWIPESYS system is used for credit card processing. The stores also sells combo food plates that includes soda, chips and cookies. About 5 stores are operating for more than 8 years. 3 stores were open about 3 years back. Customers have option to register themselves using their telephone for reward points. FOODIE uses MYREWARD system to track the customers and items that each customer buys over a period of time. FOODIE is looking to expand in all aspects of its business and is trying to analyze the trends in its business since its inception. Business owner wants to: Identify top 3 stores that creates maximum revenue for FOODIE Identify those customers who have visited any of the FOODIE store for more than 9 times Analyze the months that each item was sold the most Identify only those customer who visited only once Analyze the total revenue versus total investment and profits over a period since FOODIE’s inception Build a business report that gives user to analyze revenue over a period of time (in weeks or months or quarter or years). Ability to add few filters like items or fewer stores. Assuming that the above information is the only information known to software consultant who is going to work on the project for building reports, comment on below questions in your own words: Explain in less than 4-5 statements why the consultant should convince the business owner to build a data warehouse. How would you convince that the data warehouse is the most viable solution? Identify the data source system that you would identify for building a data warehouse Identify all possible dimensions and facts for above reporting requirements What possible data quality issues you would face, if any? Among the data sources identified, what will be the frequency of extracting the data from source system into the BDW fact tables. Mention various life cycle processes that you would adopt for building this small data warehouse for above requirements.

Explanation / Answer

As Mentioned in the statement the food stores are located in many places so every Stores keep their own data but when we think to analyze the records of every store to find the revenue generated and which store return good money in terms of business ,In that case we need to reach each store physically and collect the data individually after that combine together for comparison.this is pathetic and time consuming process to collect data from different location and collect it at single location it can consumes lot of money to buy scalable hardware also to carry data from one location to another, Instead creating a central warehouse to save all store's data at single point, retrieve and analyze at any time.

Many Databeses in the market provides the way to build your own warehouse free of cost just like Oracle Databese,. SQL Server etc.we can choose any one as per our need and convience.

Data warehouse developement process:

Step1:First we need to Gatering Requirenment to establishment the system

Step2:Analyze your business  model ,dimensions, facts & aggregation depending on the requirements

Step3:System Requirement Specification:Findout the type of Software,Hardware your required for your business .

Step4:Find the suitable for model for your business purpose loke star schema or snowflake shema.

Step5:Coding and testing of your system.

Step6:Validation or code review

Step7:Deploy the project/system and go live.
