An Active Directory Domain Controller is a server that will respond to the authentication requests given to the windows server domain.
Ready only Domain Controller : It is a new type of mode in Windows Server 2008 that will allow you store an Active Directory (AD) domain database read-only copy on the DC.
Child DC: A Child DC is a part of Main DC and it is under a parent one in an active directory domain hierarchy. For instance if google.com is the main domain then mail.google.com will be your child domain
A directory is a hierarchical structure that stores information about objects on the network. A directory service, such as Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), provides the methods for storing directory data and making this data available to network users and administrators. For example, AD DS stores information about user accounts, such as names, passwords, phone numbers, and so on, and enables other authorized users on the same network to access this information.
DHCP expands to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol which is a network management protocol used to dynamically provide an IP address to any new computers or mobile devices entering the network. DHCP permits a computer to be configured automatically, thereby avoiding the necessity of a network administrator to do thing manually.
DNS Expands to Domain Name system. It is a server that is uses to map every IP address to host name and host name to IP address. All the computer that are attached to a network will be given an IP Address that is used to identify them. But in order to communicate with those machine it will be really tedious for human being to remember all the IP address and use the IP address to contact them. SO DNS reduces this work by maintaining all the IP and its corresponding Host names. So whenever we need to contact Google.com. The DNS server will look for the corresponding IP and it will give it the browser to proceed further.
File Server: File servers are used to store data in a central location, so they must be kept secure to ensure that only those who are authorized are able to use the files. File servers allow users to store their files remotely, rather than on their local hard disks, and share them with other users. When a file is saved to a file server, clients who have access to the relevant directory can access it remotely.
Print Server: A print server is a software application which is used to provide access to printers across the network. They help avoid moving files from computer to computer before printing.
A storage server is a type of server that is used to store, access, secure and manage digital data, files and services and it generally serves as a central point of access for data storage and access.
Windows Deployment Services is a server role that gives administrators the ability to deploy Windows operating systems remotely. WDS can be used for network-based installations to set up new computers so administrators do not have to directly install each operating system (OS).
The Group Policy Management is a central resource for managing groups of Group Policy Objects (GPOs). Group Policy Objects set controls for aspects of easier administration.Microsoft created the Group Policy Management to consolidate various tools into one central platform. Using an Active Directory system, administrators can manage Group Policy Objects from this single point of access.
The registry is a hierarchical database that stores lowlevel settings for the Microsoft Windows operating system and for applications that opt to use the registry. Managing the registry includes adding ,deleting and updating the sub-keys inside the registry.
