Case 1: Programmer, personal program: taking the program to his new position A computer programmer worked for a business enterprise that was highly dependent on its own computer system. He was the sole author of a computer program he used as an aid in his programming work. Nobody else used the program, and his manager was only nominally aware of its existence. He had written it and debugged it on his time on a weekend, but had used his EMPLOYER'S MATERIALS, FACILITIES, AND COMPUTER SERVICES The programmer terminated his employment, giving due notice, and with no malice on his or his manager's part. He immediately went to work for a competitor of his former employer Without his former employer's permission, he took the only copy of the program with him to his new employer and used it in his work. He did not share it with any others. The new employer was not aware of the program or its use, but it enhanced the programmer's performanceExplanation / Answer
1. Is there an ethics issue involved?
A:
yes,
No one knows much about previous Employer and Current Employer.
But, It is non-Ethical activity done by programmer.unless work done by Programmer,but resourses are used of Previous Employer.Previous Employer pay for your work.so, Owner of this programme is previous Employer. Programmer join without former Employers permission.So Programmer should apologize for this to previous Employer. Programmer always feel guilty about them.
2.Were the action of all parties considered unethical or not unethical?
Anser:
Previous Employer and current Employer don't know much about it. So, action of theire is not unethical but action of programmer is unethical.
If current employer know about it , than do nothing this is unethical.
3.Would you comfortable if your decision was norm throughout industry?
Answer:
No, this type of decision is not comfortable for anyone.
4.Would you or employer lose customer if they knew your decision?
Answer:
According to me,
Yes
if customer know about this. They may not continue with you or your employer. This decision is completly mindset of customers. It surly affect reputation and brand of you and your employer.
5. Would you be embarrased if your superior,peers , or subordinates knew of your decision?
Answer:
According to me,
Yes, I embarrased if my superior,peers , or subordinates knew of my decision, because most of time I spent with them. They lost them trust on me.
6.What would you think of them if they made same secision?
Answer:
I think , they do unethical activity. They should not do this type of activity.
7. How would the media view your decision?
Answer:
media always searching this type of negative news. it show negatively your activity. It will affect negatively to your brand and employer brand value.
