Question
For the following scenario, identify at least 3 st akeholders. List at least 2 possible actions. How would each possible action affect each of the 3 stakeholders (give at least one possible consequence for each stakeholder and each possi ble actions - 6 total) ? Which action would you take? Why?
You are the lead programmer on a new software product. You work for a small, privately owned software company that has had only limited success in the past. There is nothing else on the market similar to the new software you are developing. The software is just entering alpha-testing stage, which is estimated to take approximately 3 months and only involves company employees. After that the product will enter beta-testing stage and will involve potential customers and users of the software. This stage is estimated to take 7- 9 months. The scheduled release date is 14 months from now. You and the other developers have been working long hours, 60 hours a week, and earning a relatively low salary. The entire development team will be sharing in the profits once the new software is launched. The owner has just returned from an industry tradeshow, and has learned about a consumer tradeshow that would be perfect for launching the new product. The project manager meets with you and the other developers on the team and tells you that the owner is very excited and determined to release the product at the consumer show, which is only 4 months away. It will take at least 2 months to prepare the marketing and packaging for the product. You are told you have 2 months to test and fix any problems.

Which action would you take and why ? List the sections of the code of ethics you relied on (ACM code of ethics):
Explanation / Answer
Answers are as below :
1. The stakeholders involved in this scenario are all the owner and all the employees (all the developers, leads, marketing executives, program managers etc).
The owner and the marketing team would be having the responsibility of ensuring that the product is showcased in the right forums at the right time so as to create a large customer base.
The development team also is required to implement the product and finally will be enjoying a part of the profits that the product would make apart from just their hardwork in putting the product out for various customers' use.
2) 2 of the possible action plans are listed below :
a) Push the development team to complete the product with all features and use all the remaining time(if any is remaining) for testing within the 2 months. This would require developers to spend a lot more number of hours in a week in making the product ready for the tradeshow. Naturally, the development team's morale would go down drastically as they will be working for long hours for the already low wages they are paid. This option would be readily accepted by the marketing team and owner.
b) Involve the program manager and owner and explain to them that delivering the complete project and that too bug-free is not possible within 2 months. Instead that your team and you would be able to build an MVP(Minimum Viable Product) that would have the basic product features without any bugs. The remaining features will be delivered in phases so that the tradeshow will have a working basic version of the product and at the same time the marketing team can showcase the remaining features as product features in the upcoming releases. This would ensure that customers would get a look and feel of the project at the tradeshow. This will give the developers a good amount of time to build, test, fix and ensure that a high quality MVP product is available with realistic deadlines. The owner would require a certain amount of persuasion and needs to be explained the importance of product quality, especially when it is being showcased for the first time. The marketing team also would have to align their efforts to ensure that the upcoming features are also highlighted appropriately.
I would choose the second option as this will ensure that the end goal of showcasing the product at the tradeshow is achieved and wothout over-stressing any of the employees.
The sections of the ACM code of ethics relied on are :
1.1 Contribute to society and human well-being (The develpers will not be over-stressed)
2.1 Strive to achieve the highest quality, effectiveness and dignity in both the process and products of professional work. (The product being displayed in the tradeshow will be of high-quality)
