Question

1- The textbook includes a large portion of the text in the area of employment discrimination. You may also have studied similar issues in other university classes such as management and human resources classes. Perhaps you have training sessions at work related to the topic. Some people argue we are "beyond the era of workplace discrimination," The election of a black president is cited as a post-racial world. Likewise, some commentators suggest that is not the case and that discrimination arises in different contexts than it did ten or twenty years ago. The question to discuss in the spirit of a free, civilized, intellectual exchange is: Does the level of scrutiny, the amount of time, the quality of the information and the materials dedicated to such training and education seem to be appropriate and effective for today's workforce and workplaces?

Explanation / Answer

The subject of employment discrimination defines the non-favorable type of treatment given to group of peoples or an individual based on age, gender and ethnicity etc working in same place and have same zone of employment. At present there are government laws which prevent the workplace discrimination. As per these laws there should be training hour in week or in year. In these training hours the employer will educate their employees regarding the type of discrimination and how to manage such issues. These laws were implemented in 2014 at California assembly. Under the section 12950.1 (a) the employer will provide interactive training for two hour regarding sexual harassment which found at different places that may be because of ethnicity. So we can’t say that there is no rule regulation to monitor the workplace discrimination. Second most effective thing is implementation of these guidelines at workplace. Third one is monitoring of implementation. If 2nd and 3rd step is not followed then these rules and regulations are useless which will give rise to workplace discrimination. There should be monitoring committee or way of communication with employees to find the incident of discrimination and status preventive action taken by employer. In few cases it was found that employees never complaint about such incident which promote the workplace discrimination.

As per the level of scrutiny, there is lack of investigation resources and communication regarding these issues at workplace. There are various training session which are sufficient for educating the peoples. These training sessions are effective as per current workplace and workforce.
