A medium size technology product manufacturing company with over 20,000 employees has been in business for over 20 years. This company has a Research & Development, employee training department, and a large IT department. Thousands of personal computers and various software packages are used throughout the operation. In the past five years this company has faced many legal and ethical issues related to the use of computer hardware and software. You have been hired as the new head of the IT department for this company. Explain in details your plans and polices that makes this company compliant with acceptable ethical values and legal standards.

Explanation / Answer

As an IT head first I would like to know the requirements of the organization then map to the available resources in the organization, saying this I will come to know about the existing resources of the organization, which will let me know about the resources which needs to be brought on stage. Then I will have a look into the IT budget for this fiscal year and then again have a look into required resources. Based on which we will decide to go for acquiring of new software’s (whether to go for lifetime or a 1yr, 2 yr, 3yr renewals based on the budget) / hardware’s (on spot service) through bulk buying process which will help to reduce the cost. Also I would keep in mind the emergency system requirements’ incase if failure occurs and also take into consideration the maintenance cost of both the existing and emergency systems, which in turn will help me to execute the resources optimally.
