Explanation / Answer

1.During the staff meeting, the performance of BJ is discussed. BJ works hard but received a poor customer rating, and the manager is told to “figure it out” or fire BJ. Which of the following would be the best approach to try to improve BJ’s performance?

A. Give BJ a raise because his poor performance is probably a symptom of poor motivation, and money is a great motivator.

B. Have BJ attend a restaurant management course at a local college.

C.Implement a profit-sharing plan so that all employees receive the same percentage bonus if the restaurant they work at meets its profitability target.

D. Provide BJ with 360-degree feedback from customers, coworkers, and managers to give him insight into how his behavior is perceived.

We think D is the correct choice as unless a feedback from all quarters is shared, the employees does not know what is missing and thus what to improve. Point B comes only fater that when we identify what needs to be improved. Point A and C would come into picture only if the employee is a great fella but just doesn’t run around. Also this will not be the case with only one employee but many exmployees should show sign of low pay, incentives schemes etc.

2.Scott has asked you for advice about his hiring process. He is concerned that Barcelona is not hiring the right people. He says he doesn’t learn much from résumés and says, “I’ve hired too many people that I thought were amazing in an interview, and they ended up being a dud, and vice versa.” What advice would you give?

A. Perform a job analysis to clearly identify what skills are needed to perform in each position at Barcelona.

B. Before interviewing an applicant, have him or her complete an online personality test that has been validated for teachers and social workers.

C. Only hire people with at least two years’ experience in the same position at another restaurant.

D.In addition to posting positions on Craigslist, use job boards like Monster.com to increase the number of applications received.

Options A and B are correct as we part of solution lies in each of them (and may be other solutions too not mentioned in options here) because A would help Scott match the exhibited skills and the skills needed by the role, job (job description written scientifically) and B would help the candidate and Scott to assess the quality traits needed. A is the subjective assessment by Scott and B is the objective assessment by the system.

Past work ex of 2 yrs is something just on paper and is not pointer of cultural fit. Different job boards is just a random step and absolutely irrelevant.

3.Noah is in the process of getting organized. Which of the following actions should he take during this time? Check all that apply.

A. Noah should inform his employees of the activities he wants them to do for him.

B. Noah should put all of his important projects into a calendar that he looks at every day.

C. Noah should get to work and take action on all of his organized projects and commitments.

D. Noah should write down a list of all of the actions he needs to take so that he will have a reminder of what he needs to do when he needs to do it.

We think ALL the options are correct as all of them point towards the necessary mindshare and action bias need towards organizing oneself and thus the tasks of the team, project etc.
