Please rephrase

The United States Postal Service was created on July 26, 1775, by the continental congress, the first Postmaster General, Benjamin Franklin was appointment in 1775. The postal service is an independent agency under the United States government. It is responsible for the delivery of mail to all 50 states, military, and U. S. territories. (History.com, 2016) Currently they employee approximately 600,000 employees (USPS.com). over the years the United States Postal Service has developed and embraced new technology to better sever their customers. the United States Postal Service is the main provider for $1.4 trillion mailing industry (USPS.com).

But over the years the United States Postal Service has struggled losing billions of dollars, people assume that is was due to the internet, and customers using less stamps. They are a few of the issues but they are really minor ones. In the Washington Post article from 2012, Fredric Rolando stated that, “There is indeed red ink, but the reasons are unrelated to the mail. In 2006, Congress required that, within the next decade, the Postal Service pre-fund future retiree health benefits for the next 75 years — a burden no other agency or company faces. That accounts for 85 percent of all of the agency’s red ink since — and more than 90 percent of the $6.46 billion shortfall from the first half of fiscal 2012. Before pre-funding began in 2007, the Postal Service had annual profits in the low billions” (Rolando, 2012).

When Congress directed the United States Postal Service to make the above changes, it put the United States Postal Service in a nose-dive and the United States Postal Service started losing money. Other issues started to arise with the United States Postal Service when their management team was disagreeing amongst themselves, and in return produced a hostile work environment with the employees. When this happened the employees started to filed numerous complaints against management for causing a hostile work environment within the United States Postal Service. This in return caused the issues between management and the employees to roll down to their customers, as result their actions forced their customers to look for other alternatives for mailing their postal.

I believe that in order for the United States Postal Service to survive they must search for ways as a team become a viable business. Then must embrace the changing times and one way they can do this is by looking at other Postal Services around the world and see how they operate and does their business plan make them successful. Doing my research, I discovered that Canada and Japan are not part of their governments, in fact these countries they are treated like a business, not a government agency. If the United States Postal Service, acted like a business and not a government agency and did the following things to improve their business, first incorporate technology throughout the United States Postal Service, as well as start with a customer survey to learn where their customers see where their issues are in the United States Postal Service, this will also give them good feedback on areas that they are doing well and can keep improving in those areas.
