Question
In chapters 12 and 13 we look at network systems. Let's look at section 12.4 starting on page 373 deeper. For each of the following types of networks below, explain which network topology from the options described in this section would work best and in a few sentences why.
The Internet
A home network
A corporate network in one building
A corporate network with ten physical locations
Your system you identified early on in our discussions or choose another network if your system is not networked.
Then explain further what would happen if the network topology you chose failed. Describe the failure and how you would mitigate it. Would it be better then to choose a different topology?
Explanation / Answer
Ans :
Network infrastructures can vary greatly in terms of
Size of the area covered
Number of users connected
Number and types of services available
The Internet
The Internet is a worldwide collection of interconnected networks (internetworks or the Internet for short), cooperating with each other to exchange information using common standards
A home network
A home network is two or more computers interconnected to form a local area network (LAN) within the home.
A corporate network in one building
LAN (Local Area Network) is suitable for corporate networks within a building , that spans a small geographical area.
A corporate network with ten physical locations
If the physical locations is in same city, then we can use MAN ( metropolitan area network ), that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area
or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network (LAN) but smaller than the area covered by a wide area network (WAN).
If the physical locations is in different countries, then we can use WAN ( Wide Area Networks), that extends over a large geographical distance.
Topology failure depends on the type of the topology you have applied to the network.
Mesh topology is best suited, which connects every computer in the network with different lines but requires high cost to implement this.
Advantage of using Mesh topology is even if one connection fails, computer uses another connection to connect to system.
