Question

Brown and Sons Ltd. are manufacturers of brass beds in New Jersey, and cater to a global clientele. They are computerizing their working environment and hiring Red Sky IT Systems to develop the software to manage customer data. They want Red Sky IT Systems to develop Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software for them, as soon as possible.

You are the project manager for the team that will develop this software. The project cost and effort estimation shows that it will be a profitable project if completed within an effort of 20 persons spread over 2.5 months. All the resources are available because Red Sky IT Systems has developed similar projects for other clients. You have an enthusiastic team of eight members who are experts for this type of management system. The planning phase is in progress and the customer has defined the scope clearly.

Based on the above scenario and your understanding, create a 4- to 5-page document in Microsoft Word that includes the answers to the following questions:

What primary life-cycle model would you suggest for this project? Why? What are the reasons for not selecting other primary models?

What kind of key performance indicators (KPIs) will you, as a project manager, use to track the progress of this project?

How will you engage your customers throughout the progress of the project to ensure their endorsement and support?

"A stitch in time saves nine." Do you think this idiom is true for proactive risk management in software development? Why or why not? Comment for or against the importance of proactive risk analysis and management.

Explanation / Answer

The primary life cycle model will be a protoype model because it will involve the customer interaction while developing the model so that after the requirements stage,a prootype can be built and then can be shown before implementing the final product. The customer will check and if it is satisfied he will say yes otherwise he will recommend the changes to be made so that another prototype can be made and checked by the customer before implementing the actual product.we cannot use other models because other models do not interact with the end users untill the whole product is developed. This is the reason we use this model.

The key performance indicators that will help to track the progress of the poject are:

1.Availaibility of the resources to built the product

2.Performance of the protoype built and check whether it performs the operations.

3.quality of the product after building it to check if it solves the goals it was meant to achieve.

4.Mean time between failure:Failure rate should be minimum and the product should run properly before being delivered to the end user.

We can engage customers throughout the progress of the project by sending the prototype of the model to the customers. a part from that an email can be sent regularly from the company sending the progress of the product at every stage explaining where the project has reached and also with diagrams and images..This can be done by sending mails or also by regular meethings with the company so that they can visit and see how it is being implemented and how long will it take to finish.
