Question

Hi, please write a response to the below discussion post for mba 550.

For a future position in management, the material covered in this module could be used to assist in terms of using the organizations resources to their maximum capacity. According to our text, the purpose of project management is to “reflect a commitment to resources to a typically important activity for a relatively short timeframe…” (Taylor, 2016). In order to use these resources effectively, management must be able to incorporate the use of decision-making skills that in the long-run will have an impact on every aspect of the project lifecycle. The lessons learned over the course of the project, specifically the increase in project management skills such as project planning, scheduling, and control along with the use of decision-making skills, will lay the foundation for increased problem-solving capabilities needed as a manager as they progress throughout their career.

Explanation / Answer

The material covered in this module enlightens us with the concept of Project management and how its application can improve efficiency and the likelihood of project success. Almost any human activity that involves carrying out a non-repetitive task can be a project. So we are all project managers! We all practise project management (PM). There is a big difference between carrying out a very simple project involving one or two people and one involving a complex mix of people, organisations and tasks. A project can be captured on paper with a few simple elements: a start date, an end date, the tasks that have to be carried out and when they should be finished, and some idea of the resources (people, machines etc) that will be needed during the course of the project. When the plan starts to involve different things happening at different times, some of which are dependent on each other, plus resources required at different times and in different quantities and perhaps working at different rates, the paper plan could start to cover a vast area and be unreadable. Project management is all that mix of components of control, leadership, teamwork, resource management etc that goes into a successful project. Project management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a specific (and usually) one-time effort, for example, constructs a building or implements a new computer system. Project management includes developing a project plan, which includes defining project goals and objectives, specifying tasks or how goals will be achieved, what resources are need, and associating budgets and timelines for completion.
