After watching the video, write a 1-page response to the following question: Plato or Aristotle: Whose philosophy makes the most sense? Feel free to reference from the youtube video. Both Plato and Aristotle knew each other, and both came up with radically different philosophies to explain the world. Convince me which one you agree with and why.

Explanation / Answer

Answer –

Plato or Aristotle: Plato and Aristotle are two great philosophers in the world. They knew each other as they lived during the same time. The plato was a teacher of Aristole. They had a teacher and student relation with each other, but they had very different views in terms of philosophy.

Plato Philosophy – Plato philosophy was focusing around the idealism in the world. He want to see things in the world in the eye of idealism. Plato states that he want to deveop a republic state, an ideal state and the republic state should run in an ideal process to support the human kind. Hence Plato’s philosophy drives the idealism in the state and among the people. He thinks that the human selfishness should be removed from the human nature and human nature needs to be ideal and should exercise the ideal behavior in the world, which will be a type of great service for human kind. He pushes social unity so that it will help the world to move towards the idealism.

Aristole Philosophy – Aristole though he was a student of Plato philosopher, he was not in line with the thinking of plato. He believes in the realism. He believes the real world where we are living and we need to understand the real process and system which are a support system for human kind. Aristole pushed for realism instead of idealism. He says politics is right way of running the government as people need politics kind of system and process for adequate rulling the nation. A working government needs to have politics as all the nations in the world are executing the politics for the working government. Aristole acknowledged the human selfishness and he says that the human selfishness is necessary for running the human process in the world. Without selfishness it is very difficult to get the support from the human beings. People will not work unless they see their benefits or if that things are linked to them.

Aristotle’s philosophy makes the most sense, as it resembles the real living world, which is a big truth today. The philosophy which Aristotle explains looks real and which can be achieved. It helps to drive the things in the direction of force where they are flowing. So it will be helpful for executing the work in the current direction of flow i.e. realism. Whereas Plato want to drive the things in other direction, which looks very difficult as the amount energy and support needed for driving in altogether different direction is very difficult i.e. idealism.
