Question

the FCC recently passed a "net-neutrality" regulation (ref. this Wall Street Journal Article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703581204576033513990668654.html) as well as recent FCC writings and the vote on February 26th... see CSPAN review of the vote with the FCC's Special Counsel. One interesting quote from the article is "President Barack Obama said the FCC's action will "help preserve the free and open nature of the Internet. The move was prompted by worries that large phone and cable firms were getting too powerful as Internet gatekeepers." Exactly HOW this was happening is not clear.

Was Internet access "broken" so that the U.S. Government felt a need to "fix" (regulate) it?

Since the inception of public access to the Internet, some groups have been wanting to regulate access to the Internet in the name of "access for all." What are the implications for government regulation of the Internet on individuals, businesses, schools, and internet service providers? Should there be government regulation of the Internet at all?  Does anyone "own" the Internet?

Explanation / Answer

If the FCC can "regulate" the Internet by fiat, then it can shut any website down by fiat. It can shut the whole Internet down by fiat, a power that Obama granted himself unilaterally in the supposed interest of "cyber-security."

Now, and I write this with all seriousness to the lefty drones out there. Do you really want arbitrary rule? Haven't you seen enough to convince you that Obama is not even a leftist or a neocon, but simply a megalomaniac with a cohort of fellow tyrannical thugs?
