POLICY AND PROCEDURES Discussion Topic: BB&T Vision and Mission Statements In preparation for your Discussion topic, please read Chapter 2 Appendix, BB&T Vision, Mission, and Purpose in the Pearce and Robinson text. Explanation / Answer

As agreed by many, it is one classic example of how an Organization should define its Vision, Mission and Purpose. BB&T does it rightly. They take a bottom up approach, if you readi it in the opposite way, where the Purpose is clearly defined, Happy and motivated Employees take care of cleints and thus revenue is generated and stakeholder are satisfied for the money/contribution they have made earlier and geth their share of return. This purpose helps to drive the mission to Bring value to stakeholders, by having good revenues from satisfied clients, with the help of happy and satisfied Employee who shall have a greate place to work in. This mission is accomplished to achieve the Vision to be the best.

So overall it is a very meaninful and defined statements having defined the hierarchy of success clearly. It is very well organised and informative, proves a practical approach to the theory it defines. The mission statement is the business philiosophy emphasizing the market, the industry and the customer area and handles the questions on goals, objectives very well.

But the main negaive i see here is that it focuses more on the process of developing mission statements and leaves gaps in discussing the major areas of goals and objectives in an objective way and this gives an impression of being theoritical as the core practical approach and defined product/service oriented approach is missing. It also misses on providing any futuristic path of leadership or success or on the other side a history of success story.
