What Do You Value In Work? Preparation Rank in order the nine items in terms of how important (9 = most important) they would be to you in a job. How important is it to you to have a job that is respected by other people? -Encourages continued development of knowledge and skills? -Provides job security? -Provides a feeling of accomplishment? -Provides the opportunity to earn a high income? -Is intellectually stimulating? Rewards good performance with recognition? Provides comfortable working conditions? Permits advancement to high administrative responsibility? Instructions The rankings should be shared and discussed so they are clear to everyone. Everybody should participate in this ranking task. Listen to the discussion and be prepared to comment later in class discussions. Optional Instructions Form into groups as designated by your instructor but with each group consisting entirely of men or women. Each group should meet and decide which of the work values members of the opposite sex ranked first. Do this again for the work value ranked last. Following are the rankings that I would provide for worlplace :
1. Provides Job Security - It is most important as if one does not have job then how can they plan anything else at workplace.
2. Encourages continued development of knowledge and skills - It is now important for one to learn into the organization about the skills and knowledge. If it does not happen then career is doomed to fail
3. Provides opportunity to earn a high income - Money is for which we all are working for. If the job does not provide earning opportunity then again it discourages us.
4. Rewards good performance with Recognition - For me recognition of my good work motivates me to do more good work and thus I feel that it is needed for me to continue to showcase my good performance.
5. Provides comfortable working conditions - If working comfort is not available, then the outcome is not matched and thus your performance gets affected. So I would definitely look for comfortable working conditions.
6. Is intellectually Stimulating - I am not getting any intellectual knowledge about the work or life and just getting money for performance, it will not be what I want. I want organization to trigger thoughts inside me and build out the creative aspects in me.
7. Permits advancement to high administrative responsibility - It means that organization who gives larger opportunity at work which will allow an individual to grow
8. Provides feeling of accomplishment - It is again needed without which a job satisfaction will not come out. It is thus very important to look for organization which provides feeling of accomplishment.
9. Is respected by other people - This may be other peoples opinion so thats why I am rating it last but it also has some weightage to selecting organization.
