Scenario
You are a copywriter at MediaRay, a mid-sized marketing firm, and Sanjay is your manager. He has been with the company for five years. Two months ago he was promoted from a campaign editor to manager of the entire advertising department. He has a strong interest in the department’s success, and people outside the department see him as a leader. He can be very motivational with his words. The problem is that his actions do not always match his words.
For example, Sanjay has a hard time letting go of tasks without micromanaging. He asked Joel, another member of the advertising department, to create a logo for a new bottled water, which he did in a timely, creative manner. However, Sanjay hovered over him much of the time and then changed the design before showing it to lead designer.
Other members of the department have had similar experiences working for Sanjay. The general feeling towards submitting anything is, “Why bother? Sanjay is going to change it anyhow.” As a result, no one in the department feels committed to the organization and an overall sense of apathy is starting to take hold. Moreover, Sanjay is constantly talking about how busy he is and how he feels burned out in this new management position.
You value your position at MediaRay too much to look for another job, but you worry that Sanjay’s leadership style is harming the entire department. Therefore you decide to help him see that he needs to model better leadership behaviors.

1) Regarding Sanjay’s lack of effective leadership behaviour, I would like convey him that:
As a leader, one should keep a point of view on human nature. Knowing different needs of employees, peers and superiors will certainly make the decision-making process easier. Both an employee as well as manager must have the ability to be in leadership and motivational characteristics. Leadership is a panel through which you can motivate others. Lack of leadership can cause huge gaps between strategy and execution, Low employee engagement, not bonding to a common organizational goal, lower productivity, poor financial results.
2) Productive way to have conversation rather than accusing is to let him make understand the managerial/leadership roles:
a. Impute positive attitude: As a Manager, you can help in motivating your team members by projecting a positive attitude regarding project completion and the productivity that each member brings to the team.
b. Be objective/Specify the goals: Presenting team members with clear goals and objectives for project completion helps eliminate confusion that can slow down a team's productivity. The clarity in your objectives allows team members to see through your vision for completing a given project. When team members understand and agree with your project goals, they work harder to achieve those objectives. This creates an environment where all team members can achieve high levels of productivity and validate your leadership technique as the catalyst for the betterment of the project.
c. Boycott micromanaging: No employees like to be micromanaged, so set your goals free and clear, and let them figure out the best way the work to be done.
d. Communicate with everyone: By using each and every opportunity, to interact and communicate with them will help in finding new ways to organize the activities more efficiently.
e. Prone to admit and learn from failures and weaknesses: As a leader, one can able to communicate the weaknesses to your team, so that you and your team can appoint someone who can come through at that particular task.

4) Delegation is important as because, Delegating increases the morale, confidence, and productivity of Teammates.Leaders those who give equal responsibilities to their employees, along with the freedom to complete the task in their way, builds his employees’ innovation, morale, and satisfaction. Delegating also salvage you time. Not only does delegating allow you to concentrate on more important matters, it simply gives you more time overall. Delegating is a great way of encouraging your team members to develop themselves and to develop coaching and mentoring skills for yourself.
