Martin County High School (MCHS) is a newly consolidated school that combines three school districts. MCHS will serve 1,200 high school students starting in the next academic year beginning in 9 months. Part of the consolidation plan calls for a new Internet-based academic system. You have been hired as a consultant to manage the development of this system from start to finish.
The school education board has met and worked with the staff to develop its idea of what this system should encompass. Following is its summary from the board of education of the broad requirements for the project.
•This is not just a school Web site. We want this system to be an example of how a highly interactive Web-based academic system can serve the needs of students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community. We have special funding from the state for this project and expect the results to be a system that will set an example for the educational community in this state and even across the country.
•The system should be accessible by anyone, although some areas should be restricted to the people who have a right to see the information, that is, only parents and students should be able to see a specific student’s grades.
•We can talk about more specifics when the project is underway, but we feel the system should support the following areas:
?Information: school activities, information about the school, faculty, and staff; announcements and calendars with information about school activities; etc.
?Academics: We want a system that starts with the teachers where they can create and show information about their classes and students, such as homework and grades. Parents and students should be able to see this information but only their own. We also would like the system to support tutoring or other kinds of help for the topics. Maybe presentations or interactive lessons would be of value to the students. The goal is to help the students with the topics they are learning. This is an area where we expect the developer to come up with a lot of ideas to make this system great.
?Administrative: This area should allow the school to do things like sell lunch tickets, tickets to school activities, etc. We are not sure yet what all this area should do, so some work will have to be done by the developer to fully define the requirements.
?Student: There should be a way for students to create their own content pages. Students should have some tools available to create pages for their teams and clubs. Content for these areas would have to go through some kind of approval process before it is published live, so we need a preview and approval capability. This is intended to be a fun area of the system for the students, so we need ideas on implementation from the developer here.

Reports and project views are the major sources to give information about project status. The developing team must generate reports regarding the project. By asking the development team for the reports and views, the status can be known. A shared medium is to be used to share information. Through mails or conferences the status can be know. They should meet on a regular basis to share information regarding the project.
The reports obtained and the information received should be processes by extracting the information needed. Reports focus on the progress, future schedule, past successes, estimated costs etc. From the summary of the project, the status is known using various methods and methodologies like Gantt charts, graphs etc.

Some of that metrics that are to be measured are:
