How would you respond to this-When I think of example of statical thinking, I am reminded of my internship this past summer. Statistical thinking often goes hand in hand with data analysis. I did a lot of data analysis at my internship this past summer. Myself, and a team of 5 others worked on some major projects this summer where we had to figure out how to better capture the Hispanic market. We were working for the parent company of several grocery store chains, and they wanted to know what the proper assortment that we needed to have in order to attract more hispanic shoppers to the stores, and what prices did we need to have the products at for them to buy. Throughout this project we did a lot of statistical thinking while diving deep into the data to learn as much as we could about this demographic group. One of the ways that we used statistical thinking was though conducing a survey. We worked with another department in the business to draft up and launch a survey for hispanics to take all though out the Northeastern United States. We got a lot of valuable knowledge form this survey, and analyzing the data we got form it took a large amount of statistical thinking.

Explanation / Answer

The stastitical thinking has two perspective. One is quantiative and other is qualitative. In this particular scenario, the base or survey is to understand the nature of customer behavior of hispanic. To attract more hipsanic to market what exactly the retail shop has to be done. The customer service, attraction of products, experience of shopping has significant role in determining the foot steps of hispanic.The customer behaviour is a qualitative factor which requires more deep dive on factors influencing it. Pricing, ethnicty, product variants, shoping experience , location etc can be the prime factors which determines the shopping nature. Surveys through proper analtics on statsitical thinking can comeup with insights of what to be done exactly to improve the presence of hispanic in grocery shopping.
