You’re doing well in your position as VP of Training & Development at Kareco, the medical equipment company. Opie, the VP of Operations, came to you the other day with good news:

“We’re ready to roll on production of our new line of electric wheelchairs,” he said. “I just worked with HR to hire 18 new technicians to handle the manufacturing. Now all we have to do is train them. Can you have them trained by next Tuesday?” You hear yourself tell Opie, “We can. It will be tough, but not impossible.”

first, the production and technical department may alredy prepared a design and prototype of the wheelchair. it should be collected first, and initially they should conduct a training program for existing current employees. in this each employee should get information about what exactly the product is, what are the major components, how they gathered (own preperation or buying from outside), how they assembled, understand the assemble process, what are the bottleneck areas in the process, how it should operate, are there any limitations in this process and so on. once the internal employees are thourough about the product, the components, its functioning and the way of operating, then these people can provide traning for newly recruited people easily.

instead of doing this, if the training program conduct for all new employees, they may not get clear idea about it. hence it is better to conduct a training schedule for existing employees. it may take two or three sessions because they know something about the kind of product, they are in the process for long periods, hence it can be complete easily.

once it is over, next the managerial people sit together and plan for a traning program for newly recruitted people. what are the areas of training, where the training must go on, who are the trainers, how the total process divided, what is the time required for it, what all costs associates with the training, and preperation of all needed arrangements for the traning.
