Question

Select an actual organization—this can be the company where you currently work or a company where you aspire to work one day.

Write a 4-5 page paper—this report is divided into two sections. The first is your own personal wellness plan you plan to adopt and the second section is your recommendations for an organization to adopt a wellness program.

Use 5 scholarly outside resources (other than your text). Use different sources than your Team Trend Report.

Use APA for in-text citations and references. (see www.apastyle.org if you need information or www.owl.english.perdue.edu, Perdue University’s online writing lab). Your paper should have appropriate citations and references.

Use a cover page and put your project in a presentation sleeve.

Use headings within your paper to separate, see APA for how to use headings appropriately.

Staple your paper and place in a folder or presentation sleeve.

You will also post your paper in the dropbox.

Writing errors will count, proof carefully. Review the APA websites carefully.

May be turned in early, but not late. Submit a hard copy for grading and also upload into the dropbox.

Appropriate business terminology and content should be demonstrated.

For Section #2, assume you are presenting this paper to the CEO and Board of Directors to encourage them to start a wellness program as part of their HR Benefits strategy or expand their current wellness program.

Outline For Project

Section One—Identify your own personal wellness needs. From the discussions, readings, and guest speakers, address the following about your current and projected wellness plan:

o Overall health awareness—use your results from the assessment in the course, first week activity (Content page—use the actual assessment I reviewed and marked)

o Current assessment (use the self-assessment as a source-take the assessment again and see if there are any changes) Include your assessments with your paper so that your changes can be clear.

o Current levels of healthy living components—exercise, nutrition, sleep, disease prevention strategies, assessment of heredity factors

o Personal Action Plan—What changes will you make? How will you change?

o Be specific as to how you will implement these personal changes; how will you hold yourself accountable?

Section Two—Assume you are the HR Manager either at your current employer or an employer of your choice, make the case for why this organization should implement a wellness program and what components the program should include. Be specific as to the organization’s employees and their type of work. Include the following:

Review of current health programs available

Rationale of cost/benefit assessment

Types of wellness programs needed

Estimated Implementation Issues—costs, facilities , third part providers needed

If the organization has a wellness program already, what changes should be made to encourage employee engagement and participation or to enhance overall results?

Make your report factual using your source materials as well as the content from the class. Incorporate charts and graphs to demonstrate your points clearly. The sources below may assist you, you are not limited to those resources.

Explanation / Answer

to 5 pages, with Times New Roman font of Size 12, a page will have 300 words, hence we need a total of 1200 to 1500 words

Organization Selected: International Business Machines (IBM)

Wellness program:

Section 1: Personal Wellness Plans: (around 700 words)

Exercise
Produces feel good endothermones in the body
Regular exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes on every other day can keep the employees fit and health
this will make sure that they do not take much sick leaves and are regular and productive at work
Resulting in lower annual premiums for their health insurance
In an organization usually 30% of the employees do 70% of the work and 70% of the employees just pass the time doing 30% of the work (just attendance givers)
The key employees from 30% of the employees team can be given special health care and benefit programs - the key employees generally own > 6% of the corporate business - they can receive higher remuneration as well
This in fact reduces the health insurance cost that makes up the terms and conditions of employment as well
Sports
Sports as an add on to the exercise can be encouraged at the corporate level as well as in the community level for the health and well being of the employees
Sports encourages the sportive spirit and improves the unity level and helps them to stay more positive
Healthy diet
Protein rich diet
This can include advising employees and their family members on including both the first class protein like Animal protein (Fish, lamb, Pork (Ham), sea food, etc)
Minimizing on the deep fried items
Staying away from junk food
All these fast food outlets like McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, Pizza Huts, 7-11 may tempt with their mouth watering menus but they are not necessarily healthy at all times
Balance between poly unsaturated fat and mono saturated fat, omega free fatty acids, and the Paleo diet (Using fat to digest instead of starch - tested in the Arctic and Antarctic and is illustrated by the Eskimos
Using the seeds as food as been criticized by the Paleo diet as well - most of the mammals except human beings do not use seeds as their food
I maintain an excel sheet where I list my daily activities like time sheet - there is a facility to put a tick mark after my daily exercise
Usually I do exercise just once a day in the evenings from 4 pm to 5 pm - very vigorous jogging, following by either Basket ball or Lawn Tennis - in Summer I wind up with a swim after the sports - but not in the winter to avoid catching up cold as it is not wise to roller cast the body temperature from heat to cool suddenly - So I make sure to take a warm shower after the heavy sports and Gym - if the heater is broke I wait for 10 minutes and then take a cold water shower as the body is already cool enough to with stand the cold shock
If I catch up cold, I get a nutrition meal and do exercise both in the morning and evening as it boosts the immune system
I also maintain a Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR) chart I check once in a fortnight
Presently my height = 174 cm = 1.74 m; weight = 72 kilos
My BMI = Weight / Height * Height = 72 / 1.74 * 1.74 = 24
To be honest I am in a border - in spite of the jogging and Sports I am still a bit of overweight as the healthy BMI range is from 21 to 25
So it is best if I come down few kilos to may be between 69 to 70 Kilos so that my BMI will be in the middle of the healthy range - may be around 22
But the WHR is harder to achieve without resorting to artificial pills - but possible by natural means with little extra effort
The healthy WHR for men is < 0.9 and for women in < 0.7
Section 2) Organization Wellness programs:

Building blocks of the wellness program: (about 700 words)

Corporate companies and firms who had established a successful wellness program:

Hewlett Packard (HP) has a built in club house with Gym, Tennis courts, Swimming Pools - if you book a Tennis court outside it would cost you around $14 per hour - but for the HP employees, it is subsidized a
