The company has hired   you to   design and       build the network infrastructure from the ground up. Following is a brief summary of the business structure:             

      

Indianapolis, IN             

This office is the headquarters for the company. It has 61 employees divided across the following       three departments:             

•    Administration: 19             

•    Research and Development: 25             

•    Accounting: 17             

      

Minneapolis, MN              

This branch office has 34 employees in the following three departments:             

•    Administration: 9             

•    Research and Development: 12            

•    Advertising: 13

The offices are identical in physical size. Each is a 100-­feet-­by-­100-­feet, three-­floor office building. Each building will need to be   cabled, racks installed, etc. Estimate the amount of cable and physical infrastructure (e.g., jacks, patch panels) needed.

Network engineers are responsible for implementing, maintaining, supporting, developing and, in some cases, designing communication networks within an organisation or between organisations.

Their goal is to ensure the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for their users. Users may be staff, clients, customers and suppliers. Networks can include:

Network engineers may work internally as part of an organisation's IT support team, or externally as part of an outsourced IT networking consultancy firm working with a number of clients.
