Explanation / Answer
A smartphone can make phone calls and send text messages using your network carrier while most of the tablets dont. So, unless you're looking for a productivity luxury, just a smartphone does almost everything that a tablet does, if not more. Having a larger smartphone makes it very advantageous to you as it reduces the number of items you need to carry. Another tablet need not be carried around, and along with it it's charger and any other accessories. It provides you a calling and messaging option and internet usage remotely due to the network carrier.
A smartphone, with it's smaller screen offers limited entertainment options when it comes to multimedia and gaming. It's battery life is also limited due to its reduced size. Howeverm witht he increase in the size of an avergae smartphone and the increased capacity of batteries and data storage options available, the sales of smartphones will definitiely reduce the sales of tablets.
Work purposes :
Having a larger smartphone without a tablet is much more advantageous as it makes your load much lighter and provides almost all the requirements you need for a business trip. You have data connectivity on the go which tbalets do not provide. However, the battery life might just shoot you down, whereas a tablet would help in that case.
Student :
Having a smaller smartphone and a tablet is a much better choice for a student as students don't have to travel much. A tablet at their dorm/ house generally suffices and most work is done from home. A smartphone serves the main purposes of keeping you connected with the world.
Leisure :
Having a smaller smarthphone and a tablet is a definite must for leisure purposes as the gaming and multimedia options provided by a smartphone are limited. Increased screen size, advanced operating systems and better speakers make a tablet the clear winner. The only drawback is that a tablet is not as portable as a smartphone.
