I need to convert geographical coordinates( Latitude and longitude) to cartesian coordiantes in the x and y plane, using a function in Matlab, I been trying using a Mercator proyection and these function( Covert lat, lon, alt to ECEF Cartesian ) but I couldn' t convert them.

Explanation / Answer
According to the Cartesian coordinate system, the x-axis goes through long,lat (0,0) so longitude 0 meets the equator and the y-axis goes through (0,90).
The conversions are x = R * cos(lat) * cos(lon) and y = R * cos(lat) * sin(lon),Where R is the approximate radius of earth.If the functions sine and cos need in radians have to convert longitude and latitude to radians first. The formula for back conversion is lat = asin(z / R) and lon = atan2(y, x).
