CE8-1. Suppose you manage a group of seven employees in a small business. Each of your employees wants to be connected to the Internet. Consider two alternatives:

Alternative A: Each employee has his or her own device and connects individually to the Internet.

Alternative B: The employees’ computers are connected using a LAN, and the network uses a single device to connect to the Internet.

a. Sketch the equipment and lines required for each alternative.

b. Explain the actions you need to take to create each alternative.

c. Which of these two alternatives do you recommend?

Explanation / Answer

Alternative A:   Each employee has his or her own device and connects individually to the internet.

a)

            This alternative requires each device for each user and network module used to connect the device to the network like modem.. And every device uses to the corresponding module to connect to the internet through the device

b)

           First device given for individual employee must be attached for the network module then using this network module device can be connected to the internet. Such that every employee will have access to the internet

Alternative B: The employees computer are connected using a LAN, and the network uses a single device to connect to the internet.

a)

   Here Every employee is provided with computer and each of these computer's are connected through the LAN cable to the single common device which is actually connects to internet.

b)

    First LAN cable is connected to the each individual respective computer then all the other ends of the LAN cable from the computers are connected to the device. This device is actually connected to the network which will enable the other computer's to access the files in the internet.

c) Alternative B is better than Alternative A this is because in B there is need of less hardware compared to the A which will decrease the cost of setup. In alternative B it is easy to share files between the employees which can be possible through the LAN cable but not with alternative A.
