Summary of the Facts that led to Case
Duke Power Company was one of the public utility corporations in the field of creation, transmission, supply and sales of electric power. The Dan River power plant of Duke Power Company had a policy in 1950s that the blacks can only work in the labor department. The labor department consists of positions in the company which were lowest paid. In 1955, a new requirement was added for the higher paid jobs adding the need of a high school diploma. The company also designed a standard general test for transfer to new jobs. This led to the case.

Relevance of the Case to Human Resource Management
The Griggs v. Duke Power emerged as a powerful case in the Human Resource Management and created a powerful framework “disparate impact”. This has proved to be essential in fighting against barriers to equal employment opportunities for every individual, irrespective of their gender, race, culture, etc. The example to this can be seen as it promoted a multicultural environment without distinction which exists in current world.
I agree with the outcomes of the case as I personally feel that there should be no discrimination among people. All individuals should be equally treated and in employment equal opportunities must be given to them.
