Daniel Dennett

"Consciousness in Human and Robot Minds,"

1. Dennett believes that in principle, enough technological knowledge and materials can be used to assemble artificial intelligence that is exactly like human intelligence. Describe the four counter-arguments that hold that it is impossible to create a conscious robot. Elaborate on one such position.

2. Dennett uses the humanoid in the cog project to address two apparently unique features of human consciousness - being born with innate capacities and learning from experience. Is a robot able to have these features? How?

3. Are you for or against Strong AI?

Explanation / Answer

1.

Robot in the artificial intelligence is known to be learn the processes using machine learning technique in which the scenario is defined by the designer of the robot. The machine learning process feeds some important information which helps the robot to use as base for other scenarios as well, but the problem is the robot will only learn which it supposed to learn in the machine learning phase so it becomes very unrealistic to have all the scenarios for the robot to be designed for the machine learning step.

Secondly, it is also important to note that a robot is a machine and machine has no common sense, they can only react to the stimuli for which they are designed so it is important to make a note here that  it is impossible to create a conscious robot.

2.

Robot is able to learn from experience. When the robot comes under testing phase a very important phase starts which is known as machine learning using reinforcement learning techinque in which a robot is placed under certain scanerio and the designer watch how the robot reacts to the situation and how it learns from the mistakes it commit.

Reinforcement learning can be understood as an unexperienced person is driving a car on a busy road with no trainner, so here the driver learns constantly and add that knowledge to his domain which the drivier uses as experience in future.

This same applies to robot, the robot has great capacaties and learns from experience, basically a robot is nothing but a machine with a virtual brain.

The only comment is AI still requires a lot of research and a site with infinite scope.
