Question

Extracting Data String between two delimiters

I have this example data, of which i have some 650 rows

I am trying to extract the bolded font. I have been using Mid(find("-" which gives me - 52-PU-9401.4 Gas Turbine # 4

I am trying to do this without the use of VBA and contain i within one cell, also not text to columns

Note: the length varies but is always delimited with " - " and " "

Manuf & Deliver to GE Mod Yard - 52-PU-9401.4 Gas Turbine # 4 Manuf & Deliver (Mod.Yard) - 44-PU-802.1Acid Dosing Package Train 1 Manuf & Deliver (Mod.Yard) - 47-G-9218.1 Compr cooling water top-up fill pump Train 1 Manuf & Deliver (Mod.Yard) - 42-G-272A/B KO Liquids Recycle Pump

Explanation / Answer

You're on the right track.

Try this:

=MID(A1,FIND(" - ",A1),FIND(" ",A1,FIND(" - ",A1)+1)-FIND(" - ",A1)-LEN(" - "))

Frankly, I'm surprised that you still want to keep the initial " - ", so I thought this might be more appropriate:

=MID(A1,FIND(" - ",A1)+LEN(" - "),FIND(" ",A1,FIND(" - ",A1)+1)-FIND(" - ",A1)-2*LEN(" - "))
